The "Frankfurt Model" for the elderly

Nassauische Heimstätte has converted an apartment in Adolf-Miersch-Strasse 20 in the Niederrad district in Frankfurt into day-centre. It's open Mondays to Fridays from 9am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm. It's an important meeting place and point of contact for residents in Niederrad.

The day-centre is run by the Frankfurter Verband für Alten- und Behindertenhilfe (Frankfurt Organisation for the Elderly and Disabled). Its staff offer the kind of assistance that enables the older residents of Nassauische Heimstätte to live independently as long as possible in their own flats.

The organisation's staff can be found at regular times at the day-centre's office. Their services are available to Nassauische Heimstätte's residents in Niederrad at special conditions. Services include in-house emergency call, individual counselling and domestic help. They also offer an extensive programme of events including card games, excursions, exercises, literature cafés or volunteer-run initiatives, which are shaped to a great extent by their visitors. And there are volunteers here who will step in to assist with day-to-day tasks that have become more of a challenge.

Nassauische Heimstätte's elderly residents at the Fritz-Kissel-Siedlung and the Heimatsiedlung can find the same facilities offered at the day-centre in Riedhof. Residents can socialise or take advantage of the wide-ranging advisory service at Mörfelder Landstrasse 210 Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 5pm. Another meeting centre is due to be opened at Gerhard-Hauptmann-Ring 298 in the Nordweststadt district in Frankfurt in early 2010.
