Membership in the Forum Sprendlingen Nord e.V.
In 1995, Nassauische Heimstätte converted a former management building into a neighborhood meeting place in Dreieich-Sprendlingen. The city of Dreieich employed two social workers for counseling in the neighborhood center and the „Forum Sprendlingen Nord e.V.“ club developed from the residency. The social workers were supported by 20 resident volunteers.
In the sunlit inner court of the neighborhood meeting space, people can chat with each other and there are many offerings for the residents in the adjacent four rooms: youth club, gymnastics, a skating club and much more.
The club wants to advance the social intercourse and to avoid future conflicts. Therefore, in 2005, there was the „conflict mediator“ educational initiative co-sponsored by Nassauische Heimstätte, in which 15 residents of the Hirschsprung and Breitensee housing developments brought disputing neighbors to the table and worked on a solution acceptable to all with them. The city of Dreieich and the neighborhood club started the conflict resolution project, supported by Nassauische Heimstätte with 10,000 euros as a long-term sustaining member.
After an appeal, the socially involved tenants from the residential quarter have come forward to offer future support in disputes among neighbors. They were prepared for the task, free of charge, in a nine-month training course in a specialized Frankfurt institute. In an „emergency“, two conflict mediators are involved. Two arbitrators invite the conflicting parties to the most neutral location possible and speak with them. In this way, an understanding for each other’s situation should develop, so that the dispute can finally be disposed of. This model has already proven itself in other cities.
